Founder & CEO
Lighthouse exists to walk hand in hand with families who want to move forward from their domestic violence situation and experience.
Our service was founded in November 2009 under the name SMS Lighthouse, Single Mums Support, to walk hand in hand with single mums and their children who were victims of domestic violence. This reflected the origins of our service as a response to our CEO’s personal experience as a domestic violence survivor and her desire to see others with a similar experience become overcomers.
Through our Moving Forward Program, these clients are given a hand up and out of their domestic violence situation to one where they are thriving in life and becoming contributing members of the community.
Since 2009 our service has expanded beyond the initial focus of single mums to supporting anyone impacted by domestic violence including the extended family unit.
Therefore, on 22 March 2019, at our Annual Fundraising Dinner, we re-launched our service under the new name LIGHTHOUSE for the community.
Since that time, LIGHTHOUSE has further expanded, adding support services for men which were launched with an Information Night in October 2019. During 2020, we added support programs for people facing homelessness and addictions, after the needs of people sleeping rough in the area became especially apparent when LIGHTHOUSE was partnering with C3 Cares to provide meals during the first COVID19 lockdown (from March 2020).
We provide a hand up and out of domestic violence, homelessness, addiction and other challenging situations, to where those impacted are thriving in life and as contributing members of the community.
To walk hand in hand with families who want to move forward from domestic violence, homelessness, addiction and other challenging situations.
On a case by case basis, we have set ourselves the goal of ending the cycle of abuse and preventing welfare dependence.
